Baseball Secures Sunday Sweep, Hits Past Lasell, 11-2

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk baseball produced seven extra base hits and EJ Birch shoved a standout game to help the Rams secure an 11-2 game two victory over Lasell Sunday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park. The victory wrapped up a double feature sweep of the Lasers for the Rams.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 11 | Lasell 2
RECORDS: Suffolk (3-1) | Lasell (1-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk's scoring came in the second stanza. Tim Brigham led off the inning with a single up the middle. Zack Arestymoved him over with a walk and Brigham came in behind Steven Shamnoski's single to right center. Rich Giandrea sacrificed himself on the next at bat to plate Aresty and Timothy McCarthy's first collegiate hit came in the form of an RBI double. McCarthy traded spots with Marc Birbiglia behind a ground-rule double to center to make it a 4-0 Suffolk score.

The Rams doubled that advantage in the third inning. A Lasell error allowed Blase Cormier to not only reach, but find himself on second base. Brigham brought him in with a stand-up double to left field. Zack Aresty walked to put two ducks in the pond and three batters later McCarthy sent a shot over the left field fence to clear the bags to push the margin to eight.

More runs came in the fourth. Brigham's second double of the day, a ground rule, scored Isaak, who reached on a Lasers overthrow to open the inning. Aresty followed suit with a sac fly that brought in Cormier to make it a double-digit distance.

In the next inning, the Lasers recorded another error that allowed Suffolk to score, which made the gap, 11-0, in favor of the blue-and-gold.

Lasell broke onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when Matt Bischof went yard. The two-run jack put the Lasers within nine, but that ground was too much to make up.
