Walrod Tabbed GNAC Pitcher of the Week, Again

BOSTON – After firing off the first no-hitter in Suffolk baseball history in seven years, Worth Walrod picked up his second straight GNAC Pitcher of the Week accolade, the conference office announced Monday.

Walrod primed for his no-hit performance as he secured the final out in a Thursday tilt against Nichols. Three days later, the lefty from Dedham, Massachusetts, shoved a 7.0-inning near perfect outing against conference foe Anna Maria. The senior gave up just three walks and matched a career-high 10 strikeouts to become the first Suffolk hurler to shove a no-hitter since Jhonneris Mendez '14 did so on the exact same day, April 7, in 2012 versus Lasell.

The weekly accolade marks the second consecutive week Walrod was recognized as the best hurler in the league over a seven-day stretch and the third time this season a Suffolk student-athlete was recognized by the conference as Steven Rossi picked up GNAC Rookie of the Week State March 11. Overall throughout his career, Walrod has been honored with a weekly accolade by the league four times.

Walrod and the Rams return to the diamond tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10 when they visit Wheaton for a mid-week non-league matchup. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
