BOSTON – Suffolk baseball is set for a GNAC filled weekend when it hosts Albertus Magnus and faces Colby Sawyer at East Boston Memorial Park. The Rams entertain the Falcons Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, while the Chargers will serve as the host team in the 12 p.m. double feature on Sunday, March 31.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk baseball overturned an early 3-0 deficit and rotated 10 different pitchers to take down regional rival Western New England, 6-5, Wednesday night at East Boston Memorial Park.

RAMS RUNDOWN
With its midweek win over Western New England, Suffolk improved to 9-7-1 on the year. In conference competition, the Rams are 2-0 after sweeping Norwich it's in league opener March 24. 

Will Hopkins (.460/.508/.640) and Tim Brigham (.354/.400/600) continue to be the providers at the plate this season as the centerfielder and designated hitter have each produced 23 hits. Brigham has brought in 16 runs and scored 10 himself, while Hopkins has scored a team-best 16 runs and brought in seven. Rich Giandrea (19 H, 10 RBI, 6 R), Blase Cormier (17 H, 8 R, 6 RBI) and Rich Gilbride (17 H, 15 RBI, 14 R) are also consistent contributors at bat for the blue-and-gold. 

After a staff day on Wednesday, with 10 different in the rotation on the hill, everyone on Suffolk's staff is good-to-go for the weekend. Kevin Sinatra (20.0 IP, 11K, 5.85 ER) has seen the most action this season on the mound. Michael Muscarella leads the way when it comes to lowest ERA out of pitchers with at least 10.0 frames pitched with the freshman holding a 0.67 ERA over 13.1 innings. Steven Rossi (17.1 IP, 2.60 ERA, 16K) and Charles Batchelder (18.2 IP, 3.86 ERA, 12K) are likely to be in Suffolk's starting rotation this weekend.

FALCONS FACTS
A three-game skid put Albertus Magnus at .500 (7-7) on the year. When it comes to conference competition, the Falcons are also at .500 after splitting a doubleheader at Anna Maria. 

Five different hitters have reached double figure hit status with Mike Browne's 18 leading the way behind a team-best .375 batting average. Elijah Spataj, who its hitting .300, and Matt Warren, who connects at a .293 clip, have used long balls to bring in the most runs on the team with 16 RBI and 15 RBI, respectively. When it comes to scoring runs, it's the Clark's, Brandon and Brendan, who have come home the most. Brandon Clark has recorded 15 runs scored and Brendon Clark has tallied 12 runs scored along with Matt Warren.

Brendan Clark is statistically the best starting arm for Albertus as the freshman brings in a 1.29 ERA to go along with three strikeouts in just one nod. Brandon Fowler, meanwhile, has the most innings under his belt with 21.2 frames of work in which he put together a 4.98 ERA with 12 Ks. Nick Miller has also sat down three batters over 14.1 innings and holds a 6.28 ERA.

  • Suffolk has rattled off five consecutive wins over Albertus Magnus to move to 37-8 all-time versus the Falcons.
  • Under Anthony Del Prete, the Rams are 8-1 against the Falcons.

CHAGERS CATCHUP
Colby Sawyer split a double feature at Lasell Monday to move to 3-10 on the year and 1-1 in league action. Prior to heading to Eastie Sunday, the Chargers will battle Pine Manor Thursday, March 28 and Gordon Friday, March 29.   

Brendan Barrett and Tim Unczur provide a punch at the plate with 15 hits apiece on identical batting averages of .366. Barrett has scored eight runs and brought in two, while Unczur has three RBI and six runs scored. 

Unczur is unbeaten on the hill in his three appearances and two starts. Over 16.0 innings, he has putting eter a 0.00 ERA with 13 punchouts to his credit. Owen Cottle is the Chargers closer with 9.2 frames scattered over six appearances with eight Ks and a 5.59 ERA.

  • Suffolk renews a series with Colby Sawyer, which began in 2004.
  • The Rams and Chargers are tied at one win apiece in the all-time series after splitting a doubleheader in 2004.
