Chant to Continue Career in Australia

BOSTON – Former Suffolk baseball standout Brady Chant will take his talents overseas as he signed a contract with the Bankstown Vikings of the New South Wales State League in Australia.

Chant graduated from Suffolk in 2018 after helping the Rams to four consecutive GNAC crowns and four straight trips to the NCAA Division III New England Tournament.

The centerfielder's career was anything but average as he rewrote the Rams record books with his bat and did what no Suffolk fielder has done before, take home ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove honors after an errorless senior season in 2018.

Chant's extensive resume includes a D3Baseball.com All-America honorable mention accolade, seven all-region honors, 2018 GNAC Player of the Year and four all-league accolades. He sits atop Suffolk's record books in triples (25), total bases (362) and at bats (687), while sitting second in all-time hits (233), doubles (43) and stolen bases (68). Over 177 games played, he put together .339 batting average and .990 fielding percentage.

Following graduation in May, Chant spent the summer traveling to try outs and found his place with the Bankstown Vikings. Chant will leave his Warwick, Rhode Island, roots behind and travel to Australia for the season, which will run from September to April.

Chant is the first Ram to continue his baseball career on a bigger stage in the Anthony Del Prete era and first to do so since Reid Jackson signed a contract with the Brockton Rox of the CamAm Independent League.
