Chant Garners ABCA/Rawlings All-New England First-Team Nod

ABCA/RAWLINGS ALL-REGION

BOSTON – Suffolk baseball's Brady Chant added his sixth all-region accolade to his resume Tuesday afternoon as the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) in conjunction with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings honored the senior captain with a spot on the first-team, the organizations announced.

Chant paced Suffolk to its fourth consecutive GNAC Championship, eighth title overall, to punch the Rams' its fourth straight ticket to the NCAA Division III Tournament and the program's eighth trip overall.

A total of 55 players from 27 different programs were recognized on the first, second and third teams. Chant took home his third consecutive first-team nod in as many years, marking just the second time a Ram garnered three first-team accolades and first since Suffolk Hall of Famer Mike Maguire (2003, 2004, 2005) did so. He is one of three GNAC student-athletes to garner the nod with Saint Joseph's (Maine) seeing a pair of Monks earn third-team status in Jared Gagne and Josh Partirdge.

With a spot on the first team, Chant is nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors, which will be released Thursday, May 24.

The Warwick, Rhode Island, product capped off his career at Suffolk in 2018 leading the way at the dish. The senior captain racked up 60 hits, 22 of which went for extra bases, on a .349 connection rate to bring in 34 runs. He scored a team-high 35 runs himself and sniped 22 bags.

In the field, the four-time GNAC Gold Glove recipient played 44 contests of errorless baseball, playing all 126 total chances in centerfield successfully with 123 putouts and three outfield assists for an unblemished 1.000 fielding percentage. Over the course of his record-setting career, Chant put together a .990 fielding percentage with just five errors in 484 total chances.

Offensively, the 2018 GNAC Player of the Year secured his spot as one of Suffolk's all-time greats as well. The four-time all-league selection graduated on Sunday as the Rams' record holder in triples (25), total bases (362) and at bats (687), while sitting second in hits (233), doubles (43) and stolen bases (68). His name is also etched on the runs scored (151) and walks (84) list.  Over the course of Chant's career, he donned Suffolk blue-and-gold in 177 contests, marking the most games played by an individual in Rams' history.

Since the inception of the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams in conjunction with the NEIBA in 2003, Suffolk has taken home 30 honors – 16 first-team, six second-team and eight third-team.
