BOSTON – In its first doubleheader of the season, the Suffolk baseball team split with Brockport, winning the first 5-3 in eight innings and falling in the second, 16-4, Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
Brady Chant opened the game with a solo shot in the first at bat and scored the Rams' second run in third thanks to an error by the Golden Eagles catcher to put Suffolk ahead 2-0. Brockport responded in the fourth to make it a one-run game before Chant sent the ball out of the park for the second time on the day to regain a two-run cushion, 3-1 heading into the sixth.
Brockport hung around and climbed back with runs in the sixth and seventh, respectively, but the Rams held them at one run in each frame to force the extra inning.
Trevor Lee scored the winning run and an insurance tally in the top of the eighth and Suffolk's defense took care of business in the home half of the frame to secure the 5-3 win for the Rams.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
Brockport got things going right off the bat and Suffolk found itself in a three-run hole before it got its first turn at the dish. The Rams response was four runs as back-to-back bases loaded walks from Will Hopkins and Blasé Cormier scored Chant and Rich Gilbride, who singled and walked, respectively. Greg Speliotis, who reached on a single to right, came in on a fielder's choice and Cormier plated the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
The Golden Eagles answered with a run of their own in the second to lock the score at 4-all, before putting the game away with a 10-run fourth. With Suffolk unable to get a rally going, Brockport tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth for the final 16-4 margin.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- In the series, Chant went 4-7 with two homers, four runs and a pair of RBI.
- Lee had two hits with three RBI.
PITCHERS PICTURE
- As game one's starter, Kevin Sinatra allowed two runs on four hits and six walks and sat down six hitters.
- Gilbride earned the win with a one-run, one-hit, four-walk, one-strikeout effort in 1.2 frames, while Parker Browne picked up the save as he threw scoreless final inning with two walks.
- Four different arms took the hill in the nightcap; Rich Giandrea (0.2 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 1 BB) started with Browne (3.0 IP, 8 R, 6 H, 2 Ks), Tyler Zell (2.1 IP, 5 R, 5 H, 1 BB 2 Ks) and Anthony Riga (1.0 IP, 2 H) all came out of the bull pen.
NOTEWORTHY
- Chant's game one two jacks mark a career-high for the senior and first time that a Ram knocked two homers in one outing since Jake Frasca did so at Curry April 22, 2016.
- Lee matched a career-high RBI with two in the opener.
