Gibson Named HeroSports DIII Pitching HERO of the Week

BOSTON – Suffolk baseball's Chuck Gibson added more weekly accolades to his growing collection as the senior won this past week's national poll conducted by HeroSports.com as the Division III baseball Pitcher HERO of the Week.

Gibson was nominated thanks to his stellar showing on the hill in the GNAC Championship 1-0 victory over Johnson & Wales May 7. The righty shoved a complete-game shutout to lift the Rams to their third consecutive conference crown. The GNAC Pitcher of the Year and Tournament MVP grabbed 57.27 percent of the votes, more than 151 than the second-place finisher with 378 of the 660 submitted.

The Malden, Massachusetts, native took home the award on the strengthen of his two-hit, eight-strikeout, 1-0 cleansheet over the Wildcats. Four of the eight Ks came in the last four at bats including the entire side of the ninth, all looking, to seal up the win.

Gibson and the Rams are in the midst of a matchup at Worcester State, which serves as prep for the NCAA Tournament. Suffolk awaits the seeding and pairing of the Big Dance that will be released late Sunday night or Monday morning.
