Chant Sets Suffolk’s Triple Record

Chant Sets Suffolk’s Triple Record

BOSTON – Brady Chant of the Suffolk baseball team rewrote the Rams' record books on Patriots Day as the junior knocked his 10th triple of the season bringing his career total to 20 to sit atop Suffolk's single-season and all-time triple marks.

His record setting mark came at Rhode Island College in the third inning with the centerfielder placing his 10th triple of season to in right center to bring in a run. The Warwick, Rhode Island, product is the first Ram to produce double digit triples in a single, displacing his previously owned record of nine triples in one campaign set in 2016. The hit good for three bags brought his career total to 20, putting him ahead of Suffolk Hall of Famer Mike Maguire on the all-time annals.

Along the way to the top of the Rams' triples leader board, Chant has added multiple firsts to his resume. He is the first player in blue-and-gold to record two triples in one inning in Suffolk history and across NCAA DIII since 2010, accomplishing the feat in the home half of the third in a 30-8 win over Anna Maria Saturday, April 15. The 6-foot-3, rightie is just the 12th player in NCAA DIII history to contribute three or more triples in a single game and the only Suffolk player to do so.

Currently, Chant leads the nation in triples (10) and triples per game (0.43) to help Suffolk pave the path in scoring in DIII with 9.6 runs per game.

Chant and the Rams, who are 16-8 this season and unbeaten against GNAC action 8-0, return to the diamond tomorrow, Thursday, April 20 for a non-conference clash versus Curry. The Colonels stop East Boston Memorial Park for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
