BOSTON – After a rained out weekend, the Suffolk baseball team returns to action with back-to-back midweek matches as the Rams head across town for a rematch at UMass Boston Wednesday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m., before entertain Endicott at East Boston Memorial Park Thursday, April 6 at 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Trailing 5-3 heading into the top of the ninth, the Suffolk baseball team turned in four runs thanks to a double from Kevin Higgins and a two RBI triple off Brady Chant's bat to secure a comeback 7-5 win at Salem State Wednesday afternoon.

RAMS RUNDOWN
After a 4-5 trip to Florida, Suffolk fell at UMass Boston, 6-5, and righted the wrong with a 7-5 victory at Salem State to head into GNAC action at 5-6 on the young season. 


Seth Coiley is the lone Ram hitting over .400 with the junior outfielder connecting at a .407 percentage to go along with a .469 on-base percentage and a .556 slugging percentage. He owns 11 hits, four RBI and three runs. Brady Chant, who is hitting .327, leads the team in hits with 17 including seven for extra bases for a team-high nine RBI and six runs scored. Luke Ronchi matches Chant's team-high RBI with nine of his own with the senior producing 15 hits, batting .326, and leading the way in runs scored with 10. 

Senior starter Chuck Gibson has been the most consistent arm for Suffolk this season, owning a 2.04 ERA in 19.0 innings pitched with 10 runs allowed (five earned) on 16 hits and nine strikeouts. Ryan Pordes has also worked 19.0 innings, producing a 3.79 ERA with eight runs given up off 22 hits and nine Ks. Relief pitcher Mark Fusco brings in a team-low ERA of 2.00 into the weekend. The junior has seen 9.0 innings of action, let up four runs (two earned) on nine hits and sat down six batters. 

BEACONS BREAKDOWN
Since entertain Suffolk March 25, UMass Boston has won four of its last five to move to 10-5 on the season with the Beacons tied for sixth in the latest NEIBA Coaches' Poll. 

Chris Fowler leads the way at bat for the Beacons with a .354 average on a team-high 17 hits in 48 appearances with 12 RBI, which are good for second on the squad, and nine runs scored. Nick Herzog matches Fowler's total hits with 17, going just .283 at the plate for a team-best 13 RBI and 11 runs scored. Dan Mantoni, meanwhile, who hits .286, matches Fowler's RBI (12) and runs scored (nine) with 16 hits to his credit.   

Sixteen different arms from UMass Boston's bullpen have taken the bump for the Beacons this season. Matt Tulley owns the lowest ERA amongst the starts at 2.00 in 18.0 innings of work with seven runs allowed (four earned) off 15 hits and a team-high 23 Ks. Dan Mantoni has seen the most action on the hill for UMass, putting together a 3.14 ERA in 28.2 innings. The senior right handed pitcher has let up 15 runs (10 earned), on 26 hits and punched out 21 hitters. 

WE MEET AGAIN
The Suffolk baseball team took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but the Beacons of UMass Boston used one run in the eighth to tie things up and a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth to claim a 6-5 victory over the Rams at Monan Park March 25.

EYES ON THE GAME

GET TO KNOW THE GULLS
Endicott splits a doubleheader at Curry Monday, falling 3-2 in eight innings in the opener and shutting out the Colonels, 2-0, in the nightcap to move to 8-7 on the year. Prior to facing the Rams Thursday, the Gulls will face Framingham State Wednesday. 

Mike Kochiss is hitting well over .400 with the senior infielder's average coming in at .460 thanks to 23 hits in 50 appearances to lead Endicott at the plate. He is also producing a team-high number in runs scored, coming home 17 times, to go along with 10 RBI, which land in a tie for second on the squad with Michael Casciano, who hits just under .400 at .391 with 18 hits and nine runs scored on his stat line. Michael DeDonato, who hits .321, paces the pack in RBI with 14 on 17 hits to go along with 14 runs scored. 

Starter Kevin Gould is the best arm thus far for the Gulls with the sophomore right handed hurler boasting a 1.33 ERA in a team-leading 27.0 innings of action with five runs allowed (four earned) off 22 hits and 26 strikeouts. Pitchers Eric Nagle (2.25), Will Bryant (2.84) and Colby Morris (2.93), have mostly dealt relief work, all carry under ERAs under 3.00 into this week's action. Starter Nick Quattro, who holds an ERA of 3.12, has sat down the most hitters this year with 27 Ks to his credit in 17.1 innings of work.

Suffolk is set for a complete weekend of GNAC action as Norwich heads to Eastie Saturday, April 8, before facing Rivier the following day on the Rams' home field, however, the Raiders will be host for the conference doubleheader. Both twin bills are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
