BOSTON – Four Suffolk baseball players were honored by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) with all-region selections for the 2016 season. Suffolk finished the season with a 33-13 overall record winning the program's sixth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship earning a consecutive bid into the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
A total of 52 players from 25 different schools were recognized on the first, second and third teams with Suffolk's four selections leading all schools. Salve Regina also had four selections, while 17 institutions had multiple players collect All-New England honors.
Sophomore Brady Chant was a first-team selection as an outfielder. Chant finished the season with 99 total bases and is third among all NCAA Division III players with nine triples on the season, which also led the New England region. Chant was a first-team all-conference selection by the GNAC and also earned Tournament Most Valuable Player honors following a four-game stretch during the championship run as he hit at a .588 (10-for-17) clip with eight runs scored, four doubles and also hit a go-ahead two run homer in Suffolk's 7-4 semifinals victory over Lasell. Chant was 7-for-9 in Sunday's two championship games going 5-for-5 in game one with a pair of RBI and also two runs scored. He was 2-for-4 in the clincher with his third double of the day and scored three times in the win. He led Suffolk in both hits (65) and runs scored (49), which were also both conference highs, while slugging at a .556 clip. His 21 stolen bases on the year are also a team-high as Suffolk set a program record with 95 total during the season. His 65 hits on the season were the seventh most by a player in Suffolk's 69-year program history. Chant, a gold glove selection by the GNAC, also led all outfielders in New England with 127 putouts on the season.
Freshman Jake Frasca was a second team all-region selection at second base. Frasca wrapped up his first season leading Suffolk in home runs (8), doubles (14) and RBI (40). He slugged .529 on the season hitting .294 (50-for-170). He was also named GNAC Rookie of the Year as well as being a second team all-conference selection.
Two players earned third team All-Region selections; senior third baseman Drew Carter and freshman pitcher Kevin Sinatra.
Carter finished the season hitting .389 (56-for-144) with 12 doubles, three home runs and 31 RBI. He led all GNAC players with a.506 on-base percentage, which is eighth best in the New England region and 48th among all NCAA Division III players nationally. Carter was also a first team All-Conference selection by the GNAC and also earned a gold glove at the third base position. He wraps up a two-year career at Suffolk after transferring in for his junior year with seven home runs and 53 RBI while hitting .321 (89-for-277), while slugging at a .462 clip and a .436 on-base percentage.
Sinatra finished the season with a perfect 7-0 record on the mound in nine appearances. His 1.23 earned-run average stands at the third lowest total among New England hurlers and is ninth among all NCAA Division III pitchers. Sinatra allowed just seven earned runs in 51 1/3 innings pitched on the season and struck out 29 hitters. He threw four complete games. He won all four of his starts in conference action on the year allowing just two earned runs. He threw a pair of complete game shutouts on the season against Rhode Island (March 26) and Norwich (April17). He was also a second team all-conference selection for the season by the GNAC.
The Rams, who put together 33 wins on the year, the second most in program history and the second highest win total by a team in New England for the 2016 season, finished ranked sixth by the NEIBA.
