Lapolla Named GNAC Corvias Player of the Week, Walrod Tabbed Pitcher

BOSTON – On the heels of  6-2 week, Suffolk baseball's Jon Lapolla was named GNAC Corvias Player of the Week and Worth Walrod took home Pitcher of the Week honors. 

Lapolla batted .593, slugged .815, scored 12 times and added 13 RBI in eight games. He hit safely in each contest, including seven multi-hit games. The senior captain started things off with a 3-of-6, three run, two RBI effort in a massive 18-4 victory over Clarkson. The Providence, Rhode Island, native continued to rake in the remainder of the week with his highlight performance coming in a 7-3 victory over UMass Boston on St. Patrick's Day, going 3-for-3, including a double, triple and homerun, with three runs scored and a quartet of RBI. Lapolla punctuated the Spring Break trip with a 2-for-5 effort, brining in one run and scoring one himself. Over the eight games, he also stole six bags including two against in each game against Plattsburgh State. 

Walrod picked up his second weekly award in as many weeks in his career as the sophomore southpaw pitched seven shutout innings in the Rams' 7-3 win over UMass Boston. In his second start of the season he collected his second win, facing 27 batters, allowing no runs and just four hits. In 90 pitches he through 60 strikes, punching out seven.  

Suffolk, who returns to action tomorrow at Bridgewater State, has collected a third of the conference's weekly awards this season with Walrod having two to his credit.
