Baseball Runs Past Clarkson, 18-4

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Nine different players combined for 23 hits as Suffolk baseball ran past Clarkson, 18-4, Sunday night as part of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park.

The 23 hits are the most by Suffolk, who is currently undefeated in the Sunshine State to improve to 3-1 on the year, since the Rams registered 28 against Norwich April 24, 2013. The 18 runs, meanwhile, are the most for the blue-and-gold since it produced 26 over the Cadets three years ago (April 24, 2013).

Drew Carter led the way as the senior went 4-for-6 and he brought in five runs and crossed home plate twice himself. Brady Chant (3-for-7), Sean Cameron (3-for-4), Seth Coiley (3-for-3) and Jon Lapolla (3-for-6) each had three hits to their credit.

Kyle Turner picked up the win on the hill with the senior tossing a full six innings, striking out five, while allowing three runs on eight hits.

Suffolk wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as the Rams jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the top of the first and followed that with two more in the second. Clarkson (x-x) got one run back in the third, but Suffolk answered immediately with a huge eight-run sixth inning capped off by a three-run homerun by sophomore Greg Spleiotis. Leading 13-3, the Rams offense continued to onslaught in the fifith with five more runs to bring Suffolk's grand total to 18.

The Rams' three-game win streak will be contested by Plattsburgh State tomorrow in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
