Three Selected to GNAC Baseball All-Conference teams

Three Suffolk University Baseball players earned All-Conference selection by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for their 2015 season. Suffolk captured the GNAC Championship on Sunday April 26 with a 4-3 victory over Johnson & Wales University in 13 innings, the program's fifth conference championship.

Senior Josh Desai (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was named a second team All-Conference selection. The senior southpaw hurler was also named the GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player following his complete game five-hitter over St. Joseph's College in a 3-2 semifinals victory. Desai is currently 5-4 on the season with a 3.00 earned run average. He has logged a team-high 57 innings on the season. Desai leads all hurlers in the league with 59 strikeouts on the season while he is also ranked among the top 20 pitchers in NCAA Division III Baseball with six complete games.

Junior Jon Lapolla (Providence, R.I.) was named a third team selection at catcher. Lapolla leads Suffolk with a .309 batting average (30-for-97) and .485 slugging percentage (12 extra base hits). He tore through GNAC pitching on the season hitting at a .472 clip in conference play. Lapolla's .448 on-base percentage leads Suffolk on the season while he ranks third among GNAC players. He has walked 22 times on the year to go along with a team-high nine doubles, a triple and a home run.

Freshman Brady Chant (Providence, R.I.) was also a third-team selection as an outfielder. Chant was also award a Gold Glove by the conference as the centerfielder has not made an error on the year while recording a pair of assists and 77 putouts. Chant is hitting at a .291 clip that includes a team-high 34 hits on the season. He has six doubles and one triple and is tied for the team lead with Lapolla for eight stolen bases.

Senior Paul Pollano (North Andover, Mass.) was named to the GNAC Sportsmanship team. Pollano has appeared in nine games on the season with a 4.70 era. He has struck out 19 hitters in 15 1/3 innings pitched. Pollano also served as a team captain.

Desai, Chant, junior Cal Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) and senior Adam Johnson (Georgetown, Mass.) were all selected to the All-Tournament team.

Suffolk will round out the 2015 regular season with a non-league doubleheader at Endicott College on Saturday at noon. Suffolk has earned an automatic qualifier bid with the GNAC championship for the upcoming NCAA Championship tournament. Pairing will be announced late on Sunday May 10.
