Tierney, Flax Pitch Baseball to 7-2 Win

Senior Frank Tierney (Hyde Park, Mass.) and freshman Jake Flax (Wyckoff, N.J.) combined to allow just seven hits as the Suffolk University Baseball team beat New Jersey City University 7-2 on Sunday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Florida.

Freshman Seth Coiley (Arlington, Mass.) was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and three stolen bases to help lead an offense that put together 10 hits in the victory.

Senior JC Collette (Amesbury, Mass.) reached base in four of five plate appearances as he was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and also scored two runs. Junior Drew Carter (Newburyport, Mass.) collected a pair of hits on the day and also had a big insurance RBI on a single in the eighth, while sophomore Sean Cameron (Milford, Conn.) also had a pair of runs batted in.

Tierney pitched the first five innings allowing just one run on a pair of hits while punching out five hitters. Flax earned the save in his first collegiate appearance going the final four innings while striking out six hitters and allowing just one run on five hits.

The win moves Suffolk to a 2-1 mark to start the 2015 season.

Suffolk will be back in action on Monday afternoon when they take on Husson College at 3:30pm over at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven.
