Cintolo Records 200th Career Hits

Suffolk University and Williams College splits a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Williams took game one 3-2 as senior Darren Hartwell (North Reading, Mass.) scored all three runs for the Ephs in the game. Junior Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass.) became the third player in program history to record 200 career hits for Suffolk as they walked off with a 6-5 victory in the nightcap.

Game One

Hartwell finished game one for the Eph's 2-for-3 scoring three times in the opener. He started the scoring in the first with a double to left center and then came around to score later in the inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Phil McGovern (Nutley, N.J.).

The Ephs would tack on their second run of the contest in the second as a single by senior Taylor Mondshein (Larchmont, N.Y.) brought Hartwell who reached on a fielder's choice and later stole second base.

Suffolk would manage to even things at two a piece.

They tacked on their first run in the bottom of the third inning as freshman Jon Lapolla (Providence, R.I.) came around to score on Cintolo's first of three hits on the day. Lapolla and Suffolk would even things in the fourth as the freshman catcher doubled down the left field line to plate sophomore JC Collette (Amesbury, Mass.) making it a 2-2 game.

Williams would score the eventual game winning run in the sixth inning as Hartwell scored on a bases loaded fielder's choice.

Senior Jimmy Ray (Glen Gardner, N.J.) recorded his fifth save of the season for the Ephs pitching the final inning and a third while striking out a pair. Sophomore Thomas Murphy (Whitinsville, Mass.) earned his first win in five decisions as he worked the first five innings.

Game Two

Cintolo joined Mike Maguire (2005) and Jared Leach (2001) as the only players in Suffolk University history to reach the 200-career hit plateau in the first inning as he singled to center for the milestone.

Cintolo would come around to score later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by senior Chris Stanley (Placentia, Calif.) for the game's first run.

Suffolk would tack on a pair more of runs in the second inning as a seemingly harmless fly ball to center off the bat of Cintolo got lost in the sun and dropped as juniors Mike Muse (Milton, Mass.) and Mac Jacobson (Norfolk, Mass.) came around to score to make it 3-0 after two innings.

Suffolk would tack on two more runs in each of their next at bats in the third and fourth innings as Muse and Cintolo each added RBI singles.

Things would get testy in the fifth as the Ephs managed to climb back in the game scoring five times on seven hits.

Mondhein started things with a bases loaded double to drive in a pair, before a follow up double off the bat of McGovern brought in the third run of the inning. Murphy would follow with an RBI single that would chase junior Suffolk start Jonathan Richard (North Reading, Mass.) from the game. A wild pitch would even things up at five later in the inning as Murphy came sprinting home to tie the game.

Suffolk would walk off however with the victory in the bottom of the seventh, as freshman Rob Marks (Revere, Mass.) scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Lapolla.

Sophomore Cal Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) picked up his third win of the season in relief. Richard was sharp early for Suffolk as he held the Ephs hitless through the first 4 1/3 innings before Murphy recorded his first of two hits in the game.

The win improves Suffolk to 29-11 on the season. They will travel to the University of Southern Maine on Sunday to take on the Huskies.
