Five Athletes Named to GNAC Weekly Honor Roll

Boston, MA - Five Suffolk University student-athletes earned recognition for a strong week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) by being named to the Weekly Honor Roll for the week of October 20th.

Women's Soccer sophomore Leslie Hayden (Ross, CA) became the 21st player in NCAA Division-III history to score at least 6 goals in a game, as she scored 6 times in Suffolk's 9-0 victory over Mass. Maritime Academy on Wednesday evening. The six goals gave Hayden 17 on the season, tying her career season mark. Hayden netted 17 goals in her freshman campaign in which she was named GNAC Rookie of the Year. It was the fourth time this season Hayden has been named to the Honor Roll.

Men's Soccer sophomore Nick Cugine (Ridgefield, CT) scored the game-winner in Suffolk's 3-2 victory over Emmanuel on Tuesday night. Cugine finished the night with a goal and an assist.

Freshman John Blazo (Pembroke, MA) was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season as Blazo was once again the Rams' top finisher for Men's Cross-Country this past weekend at the Saints Invitational hosted by Emmanuel College. Blazo finished the 8k in 30:04. Blazo was also named GNAC Rookie of the Week back on Spetember 16.

Women's Tennis junior Alexandra Hernandez-Vallant (Newton, MA) was victorious 6-1, 6-2 in the one position for the Rams over Umass-Boston in Wednesday's 5-4 non-conference win. Hernandez-Vallant and partner Lauren Cameron also picked up a win in doubles play as Alexandra finished the week 2-0 for Suffolk.

Women's Volleyball sophomore Melissa Griffin (Byfield, MA) had a combined 22 kills in Saturday's GNAC Tri-Match for Suffolk. Griffin had 12 kills, 6 service aces and 5 digs in the Rams' 3-1 victory over Albertus.
