Between 2002-2005, Mike Maguire was a dream come true for the Suffolk University baseball program, a natural and gifted player in every major aspect of the game.  

He was also a nightmare for opposing teams because of the various ways that he could beat them.  He could hit, field, run, throw, and deliver in the clutch – the poster boy for sound, hard-nosed and fundamental baseball.  

Maguire’s all-around game was recognized on the highest level in 2003, when he was named an All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association, and the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year.  That same season, he batted .454 with seven home runs and 40 runs batted in and was the NCAA leader with 67 runs scored, the most all-time in one season by a Rams’ player. 

During his Suffolk career, Maguire, a power hitter to all fields and a speedy center fielder, was a three-time New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Region and ECAC New England All-Star performer, as well as a four-time GNAC selection.  

In his freshman and senior seasons, Maguire helped lead Suffolk to the 2002 and 2005 GNAC championship, posting overall records of 27-14 and 30-12, respectively.  Furthermore, he appeared in two NCAA championship tournaments representing the University. 

At Suffolk, Maguire holds more records than Boston City Hall.  His name appears in many statistical categories, including the all-time leader in: runs scored (213), runs per game (1.68, 13th highest total in NCAA Division III history), total bases (359), triples (18), and stolen bases (111, 25th highest total in NCAA Division III history). 

“Mike Maguire is the best all-around and dynamic offensive player ever at Suffolk,” stated Cary McConnell, the new athletic director and former outstanding head coach of the Rams for 19 seasons.  

Maguire, who calls Somerville his home, works as an accountant for a medical firm in Quincy.
