Cox Tabbed Suffolk University’s Head Athletic Trainer

BOSTON – Suffolk's Director of Athletics Cary McConnell announced Richard Cox as the newest member of its staff, introducing him as the University's next Head Athletic Trainer.

"I am excited to announce Richard Cox as our next Head Athletic Trainer at Suffolk University," McConnell said. "During the search process Richard blew us away with his passion and knowledge in addition to his immense strength and conditioning background. His skillset is going to be a huge added benefit for our student-athletes."

Cox takes over a newly re-vamped structure in Suffolk Athletic Training as he will be hiring two Assistant Athletic Trainers in the coming month which will provide three full-time athletic trainers to oversee Suffolk's 19 intercollegiate teams.

No stranger to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's (GNAC) structure, he brings his talents across town from the Rams' conference counterpart Emmanuel where he served as the Saints' Assistant Athletic Trainer for Strength & Conditioning for the past three seasons.

"I am very excited to become the next Head Athletic Trainer at Suffolk University," Cox stated. "I wanted to thank Cary McConnell and the rest of the hiring committee for selecting me to lead the Sports Medicine Department. I know I have my work cut out for me in replacing an athletic training legend in Jeff Stone, but I am up to the challenge and I cannot wait to get started."

Cox has athletic training roots at both the high school and collegiate levels. Prior to his stint at Emmanuel, he was the Associate Athletic Trainer and Coordinate of Strength and Conduiting at St. Marks School in Southborough, Massachusetts from 2012-15 and spent two years as the Assistant Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach at Brandeis.

In addition to being a certified Athletic Trainer, Cox is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS), as well as a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC).

The South Shore native, earned his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training at Bridgewater State in 2008, where he was tabbed BSU's Athletic Training Student of the Year as a senior. Cox furthered his education and Sport Medicine knowledge at BSU with a 2010 Master's Degree in Strength in Conditioning.
