Coming to Suffolk was an experience very different than I’d expected. I thought I’d have an easy transition and would never miss home. However, I’ll never forget how nervous I was my first day of preseason freshman year. I was hanging on to my family for dear life, not wanting them to leave. I was so homesick, I went home the first day we had off. I traveled over eight hours to go home and see my family for less than a day. My parents were of course, in shock and nobody thought that I would make it through college. They told me I had to go back to Boston and make it work. Of course, four years later, I never want to leave this city or my team. If it weren't for my teammates, I definitely would not have made it through all four years.

This game has been my solace for the past 18 years and I cannot thank every person in my life enough for pushing me through this journey. I am forever grateful for this sport and being able to play at the collegiate level and at Suffolk University. This school has provided me with endless opportunities, soccer being just one of them. This team is forever my family and the field is my home and that is irreplaceable.

To all my teammates, you may cringe at waking up at 6 a.m. for practice, but I promise you, you will miss it. You will miss every ache and every pain this sport has ever given you. Because no matter how much we hate it, it keeps us going. Don't let this time slip by you, embrace and enjoy every second, because all good things must come to end. Thank you for all of your love and support. It's been a wild ride (literally). Please try not to forget coach next year and never stop listening to Tokyo Drift. Although my time here is over I promise to be your biggest supporter. I believe in you all and your success in the future and I can't wait to see it.

To every girl that decides to represent this team in the future, please know that you’re walking into an amazing program with the best group of girls anyone could've ever picked out. Always make an effort to be there for your team, because no matter what they will have your back. You will make the most memories over the next four years with your team. They are your family now. They will be there for you during late night “study” sessions and the first person you call for any advice. They’re all insane but they will make you laugh until you cry and always be there to push you to be the better person. These girls will be your best friends for life so be ready for it. I'll never forget the memories I made as a Suffolk Women's Soccer player and can't wait to hear all about everyone's new adventures in the future.

Love always,
Mel
